Wave of compassion. Wave of compassion.

Over the last two weeks, I have fallen silent as I absorb what is unfolding from the tsunami disaster in south-east Asia.

When I look at the pictures from the devastated countries on the television, with everything being wiped out by the giant waves, I find my heart just pouring out to those poor people who went through that hell. I just cannot imagine what they were thinking when the first wave came to shore. I have tried to put myself in the same position - being on a beach - and I think I would just have stood there, still, mesmerised by what the ocean was doing.

As I sit here now, I hope the world is watching the other story in all of this, that of human surrender.

People all over the world have surrendered themselves again, just like 9/11 - but in a bigger way. The compassion and love that is sweeping the world is so obvious, that if any good is to come out of this incredible disaster, it is a waking-up of our true being, love and compassion.

The hectic life that we lead has just stopped suddenly, and what we thought was important to us before the tsunami has just disappeared. Our focus has changed and we are now concentrating on helping people as best we can. It is important for these people that this focus continues for a long time, and not just a few months.

With the survival of the fittest attitude to life that we have, however, it will be difficult to maintain such focus for so long. A shift is happening on this planet, and this disaster has somehow brought out the best in us. You would never wish these events on anybody, but this event has bought people, governments and countries together as one, and people should just be aware of this if they can.

At the Autosport show next week, racingforcharity.com will be raising money for the tsunami appeal on Saturday 15 January. Please support them if you can...
