A message of sympathy and disbelief. A message of sympathy and disbelief.

I was travelling back from Laguna Seca thinking of all the things I wanted to put in my column but, when I arrived back home, the whole world had changed.

I am sitting here in my office still trying to come to terms with the week's events with the terrorists in America. It saddens me to think that people could do such dreadful things to other human beings. I have always believed that we are all the same, we are all interconnected in some way. We all have different religions and beliefs, living in different countries, different climates and we are different colours, but we are all human beings with the same feelings of love, sadness, joy, disappointment, laughter, tears and so on.

I do struggle to understand the way the human race is heading. We are the creator of our thoughts, problems, fears, joys and happiness. Yet we don't know how to handle what our infinite God has given us. I also believe that some good and bad will come out of this, but, hopefully, it will be more good than bad.

People will be thinking more about themselves and the people around them. It will put life into a more realistic perspective. If you are angry about someone doing something silly, now it doesn't seem that silly because as long as you and they are loved and alive, then that's all that matters. We really don't need to get so uptight about certain things.

Take the last race for an example, Jan [Magnussen] and I had a great chance to win at Laguna Seca, and then Jan was pushed off the track and our race was finished. I didn't get to drive and I was really upset that our race should finish in such a way. Then you see actually how bad life can get, and it made me think that it was senseless getting so upset about a race result.

If anyone is reading this and they know some of the people who lost their lives, then my thoughts and prayers will be with you. A friend of mine in New York did, and I know what he and his family are going though.

God bless.
